The Garden
Our garden is the healthy heart of the Caversham. As a walled garden in the centre of the practice, it is a place to share, to meet, to seek refuge and advice, to plan and dream together and to find peace.
It is equally shared with doctors, nurses, practice staff and patients and has helped us become a true health centre. We come here not because we are ill but because we have time, skills and enthusiasm to contribute; ideas are born and new friendships are made in the garden and we feel better for that.
The work and development of the garden is led by two gardeners and groups meet regularly to work together and learn new skills. Occasionally we have work days, larger gatherings or celebrations and there is always a welcome and good food!
We grow flowers, fruit and vegetables…. So there are flowers for the waiting room and veg and salads for picking. Pears, peaches, apples plums, apricots and cherries are all to be shared!
A garden is always optimistic, together we prepare and plan for the next season, there are seeds to be sown, cuttings to be taken, pruning to be done, mulching and raking, digging and weeding and of course the summer job of watering.
New projects include a new pond and greenhouse. We are getting serious!
We love to see how much the garden has changed the way everyone works and to realise how much it is enjoyed and appreciated.
We are always happy to hear from gardeners who may like to volunteer in the garden.
